The European Association of Science Editors (EASE) is an internationally oriented community of individuals from diverse backgrounds, linguistic traditions and professional experience who share an interest in science communication and editing.
The EASE Guidelines for Authors and Translators of Scientific Articles to be Published in English provide simple, clear advice aimed at making international scientific communication more efficient.
The updated edition is freely available in pdf format in more than 20 languages (see links below and in the sidebar).
Moreover, you can download 8 appendices on the following topics:
The Ethics appendix is a standardized publication ethics checklist for authors, which can be routinely used during submission.
If journal editors wish to help us spread the word about the EASE Author Guidelines, we suggest the following formula that can be included in Instructions to Authors:
"Before submission, plese follow the EASE Guidelines for Authors and Translators, freely available in many languages at www.ease.org.uk/publications/author-guidelines. Adherence should increase the chances of acceptance of submitted manuscripts."
Only the English version has been fully approved by the EASE Council. Translations into languages other than English are provided as a service to our readership and have not been validated by EASE or any other organisation. EASE therefore accepts no legal responsibility for consequences of use of the translations.
Please note that in the translated files only the links in the reference list are active. Blue in-text references denote those that are available online.
We invite volunteers to translate the Guidelines into other languages. All suggestions should be sent to Sylwia Ufnalska.
More resources for authors are available via the EASE Toolkit for Authors.
