Author Guidelines

The EASE Guidelines for Authors and Translators of Scientific Articles to be Published in English  provide simple, clear advice aimed at making international scientific communication more efficient. We encourage authors and translators to observe these guidelines and apply the relevant suggestions to their manuscripts before submission.  Adherence should mean that the manuscript has a greater chance of acceptance.  Moreover, the editorial process will tend to be faster, so authors, translators, reviewers and editors will save time.

The updated edition is freely available in more than 20 languages (see below)

If journal editors wish to help us spread the word about EASE Guidelines, they can mention them in Instructions to Authors, using a formula like:

Before submission, follow EASE Guidelines for Authors and Translators, freely available in many languages at  www.ease.org.uk/publications/author-guidelines. Adherence should increase the chances of acceptance of submitted manuscripts.

The correct format for citing the Guidelines is:
[EASE] European Association of Science Editors. 2012. EASE guidelines for authors and translators of scientific articles to be published in English. Available from www.ease.org.uk/publications/author-guidelines.

Only the English version has been fully approved by the EASE Council. Translations into languages other than English are provided as a service to our readership and have not been validated by EASE or any other organisation. EASE therefore accepts no legal responsibility for consequences of use of the translations.

Please note that in the translated files only the links in the reference list are active. Blue in-text references denote those that are available online.

We invite volunteers to translate the Guidelines into other languages. All suggestions should be sent to Sylwia Ufnalska.

More resources for authors are available via the EASE Toolkit for Authors.
