The Scientific business of Thomson Reuters provides information and knowledge to accelerate research, discovery and innovation.  Our authoritative, accurate and timely information is essential for drug companies to discover new drugs and get them to market faster; researchers to find relevant papers and know what's newly published in their subject; and businesses to optimize their intellectual property and find competitive intelligence.  We will create the research platforms and services of the future that will power our customers toward business and personal success.
 
This position involves coordinating, editing and proofreading publications within the Scientific & Content Development area, including both print and online publications. This person is responsible for ensuring both the quality and the timeliness of the journals/publications in Barcelona.

Key Responsibilities/Duties:


Edit and proofread texts/figures/tables according to house style; prepare manuscripts for layout.

Send page proofs to and resolve queries with authors.

Control insertion of advertisements in print publications.

Undertake final review of print publication issue with Editor-in-Chief before sending to printer; review and approve final plotter.

Alert Electronic Publications Production Manager or equivalent to readiness for online publication.

Effectively control and communicate programming.

Continuously communicate with and provide feedback to Commissioning and Production Assistants and other Editors.

Train and guide writers/staff with regard to style and data entry.

Use our databases for enhancing and improving publications/Alert appropriate department of errors in our databases discovered during the editorial process.

Show effective personal planning and time management.

Achieve, maintain and promote consistent quality standards.

Maintain awareness of changes to editorial policies and procedures.

Maintain a flexible and adaptable approach towards process change.

Take a proactive approach to problem solving and process improvement.

Deputize for team members as and when required.

Take responsibility for identifying own training and development needs on an ongoing basis.

Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by line manager/director on a permanent or temporary basis.

Make positive efforts to promote personal safety and that of others by taking reasonable care at work, by carrying out the requirements of the law or following recognized codes of practice provided or advised by management to ensure safe working practices.

Skills:
 
Native English speaker with Bachelor's degree in journalism, English or a related field.
Degree level or equivalent in science (preferably life sciences) is a plus.

At least four years experience in science journalism/writing/editing
.
Proactive, with good language skills, attention to detail, computer literacy and strong organisational skills.

Good team player with the ability to work on own initiative.

Good interpersonal skills.

Well organized and disciplined with regard to policy, procedure and standards.

Ability to set priorities and be flexible in a changing environment.

Ability to identify problems and apply creative and effective solutions.

Ability to deal with complex and demanding information.

Experience in retrieving information from various sources.

Effective time management.

Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks under pressure.
