COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) is an independent UK Registered Charity dedicated to advancing ethical standards in scholarly journal publication internationally and to providing support and advice to our members (editors and publishers of peer-reviewed journals) on publication ethics and fraud.
We are seeking to appoint:
(1) an Operations Manager to organise COPE’s operations, manage its finances, coordinate projects initiated by its governing Council, respond to enquiries and deepen relations with its major funders to ensure its continued financial stability
(4-5 days/week)
(2) a Web Manager to oversee and develop the COPE website
(part-time probably 2-4 days/month)
The Council is prepared to consider candidates for each position separately or individuals who can fill both roles.
Candidates for the Operations Manager would be expected to demonstrate commitment to the professional values and probity of COPE; a track record in managing a similar charity, professional organisation or business. This person will also be expected to manage a part-time Administrator.
Candidates for the Web Manager would be expected to have experience in developing and maintaining websites similar to that of COPE. In addition, they would be expected to have knowledge of, and innovative ideas for, using the website and social media to support COPE’s members and further its wider mission of advancing ethical standards in scholarly journal publication.
We make no assumptions about the geographic location or specific working arrangements of the successful appointee, but expect them to be able to travel into London for quarterly Council meetings and other occasional meetings at reasonable expense. They will be expected to work from home or provide their own office space.
Applicants are invited to send a short curriculum vitae (no more than 4 pages) plus a covering letter explaining why they believe they are the right candidate and how they would envisage fulfilling one or both of these roles, along with an indication of current or anticipated salary to:
